Three physicists are patients at Les Cericiers, an asylum, and one of them has just
killed a nurse. In the midst of all this, Möbius, one of the three physicists, has a
secret to keep. He believes his knowledge to be lethal and keeps it from the rest of the
world. Yet, in a world where knowledge, especially scientific knowledge, is power, can
such a thing really be done?
What follows is a tragi-comedy in which knowledge plays an important role. The characters
turn out not to be what they claim to be and are all in possession of their own agenda.
Having been written in the sixties, The Physicists has been influenced by the Cold War
and questions the blessings of science in a way that is still relevant today.
The play was written by Friedrich Dürrenmatt.
